RockTenn is one of North America's leading integrated manufacturers of corrugated and consumer packaging. The company operates across three primary industry segments: consumer packaging; corrugated packaging; and recycling and waste solutions. RockTenn is is North America's second largest producer of containerboard, corrugated packaging, recycled paperboard and folding cartons, and operates the largest paper recycling business.
RockTenn's origins date back to 1898 and the founding of the Rock City Box Company in Nashville, TN. Rock City Box would later consolidate with other enterprises to form Rock City Packaging. In 1973, Rock City Packaging merged with Tennessee Paper Mills to form the modern incarnation of RockTenn. Acquisition would fuel much of RockTenn's growth in the 1980s and 1990s, and in 2011 the company acquired Smurfit-Stone Container, the world's largest paperboard producer and recycler.
The company maintains several metro Atlanta facilities in addition to its Norcross headquarters, including satellite offices in Norcross and Duluth, container plants in Norcross and Covington, a sheet plant in Lithonia, a food service packaging facility in Atlanta, a consumer packaging assembly plant in Lithia Springs, a partition facility in Tucker, and recycling facilities in Atlanta and Marietta.
